Is he heavyset, thin, short, rangy? Carlos is of average height, and a bit of a noodle. He's just kinda lanky, when it comes down to it. ② How old is he? ??? While nobody in his canon has even the slightest semblance of time or age, he's old enough to be going grey, and he's been a university professor for at least a decade. ③ Describe his posture. Does he carry himself well, or does he slouch? Years of university teaching have honed his posture to near-perfect. Even in his most exhausted state, he manages to keep up a straight-backed stance. ④ How is his health? Is he fit or out of shape? Any illnesses or conditions? Any physical disabilities? Carlos is heavily coded to be autistic, which would put him in the neurodivergent category. He's physically alright--not too in shape, but far from being unhealthy. At his worst, he simply forgets to sleep on occasion. ⑤ How does he move? Is he clumsy, graceful, tense, fluid? He's always moving fast, above all else. This, however, can lead to some accidents, so it's apt to describe him as clumsy as well. But he really does try. ⑥ How attractive is this character physically? How does he perceive himself in the mirror? One of the only certain things about his appearance is that he is Perfect and Beautiful. He has perfect hair, and perfect teeth, and a perfect voice. However, he appears to be uncomfortable with people describing him as this, as he feels much less than perfect. ⑦ Describe his complexion: dark, light, clear, scarred? According to the totally-reliable source of Cecil Gershwin Palmer, Carlos has lovely brown skin. ⑧ Describe his hair: color, texture, style. Perfect Carlos has perfect hair--dark and curly, with ever-spreading patches of grey around his hairline. ⑨ What color are his eyes? Deep brown and dreamy. ⑩ Does the character have any other noteworthy features? He has a strong, square jaw and teeth like a military cemetery. ⑪ What are his chief tension centers? ANSWER. ⑫ What is the character's wardrobe like? Casual, dressy, utilitarian? Bright colors, pastels, neutrals? Is it varied, or does he have six of the same suit? Whatever he's wearing, rest assured that it's accompanied by a lab coat. Beyond that, however, he seems to wear a lot of vastly different flannels and blue jeans--or, at least enough to where it's easy to tell that he does change clothes. Strangely enough, he's also expressed an interest in wearing beautiful evening gowns and feather boas, if only for the stage. He's a bit of a fashion disaster. ⑬ Do his clothes fit well? Does he seem comfortable in them? He seems comfortable in whatever he chooses to wear. ⑭ Does he dress the same on the job as he does in his free time? If not, what are the differences? EXACTLY the same. What the fuck. He's literally always wearing the same outfit. ⑮ You knew it was coming: what kind of underwear does he wear, if any? Space boxers!!! >> top SPEECH ① What does this character's voice sound like? High-pitched, deep, hoarse? Voiced by the talented Dylan Marron, his voice is a bit squeaky and crack-y, though not excessively so. This is one major difference between the way he's described by Cecil and the way he actually is: while he's noted as having a deep and melodious voice, his real tone is anything but. ② How does he normally speak? Loud, soft, fast, evenly? Does he talk easily, or does he hesitate? Ever-afraid of offending someone, he does tend to hesitate, but if it's only matters of science, he is able to talk completely freely! Also, like most other things he does, he talks very quickly, moving from topic to topic like it's nothing at all. ③ Does the character have a distinct accent or dialect? Any individual quirks of pronunciation? Any, like, you know, verbal tics? Carlos tends to pepper his speech with "uh"s and "um"s, though, strangely enough, not when he's uncomfortable or upset. He also has a roundabout way of talking, often using complex scientific metaphors to convey a simple idea. ④ What language(s) does he speak and with how much fluency? He spoke Spanish as a child, so while he is wholly fluent, his pronunciation can be slightly off. ⑤ Does he switch languages or dialects in certain situations? He speaks English pretty consistently! ⑥ Is he a good impromptu speaker, or does he have to think about his words? He very much considers his speech before he talks, leading to uncomfortable spans of silence where he just doesn't say anything, or just spouts out a lot of "um"s. ⑦ Is he eloquent or inarticulate? Under what circumstances might this change? While not quite as purple-prosed as Cecil, Carlos is prone to winding tangents and nearly-painful analogies. He's very well articulated. >> top EMOTIONAL AND MENTAL ① How intelligent is this character? Is he book-smart or street-smart? Carlos is incredibly smart, in both senses, though he tends to lean towards books. He is a college professor, after all... ② Does he think on his feet, or does he need time to deliberate? He absolutely needs time to think, often taking longer than necessary to formulate a proper response. ③ Describe the character's thought process. Is he more logical or more intuitive? Idealistic or practical? His mindset is directly in-between practicality and strong idealism, giving him an optimistic outlook on life with a realistic way of achieving it. He often retreats to logicality, however, which can be inconvenient if you're trying to have an emotional conversation with him. ④ What kind of education has the character had? Carlos is both an alumni and a professor of the University of What It Is, so he's at least had a basic college education, and in the Thrilling Adventure Hour crossover show, he's referred to as "Dr. Carlos." What does he have a doctorate in, you ask? Science. ⑤ What are his areas of expertise? What, if anything, is he interested in learning more about? Science. ⑥ Is he an introvert or an extrovert? Introverted by a hair--he does enjoy being around people, but he's a bit more relaxed being alone. ⑦ Describe the character's temperament. Is he even-tempered, or does he have mood swings? Cheerful or melancholic? Laid-back or driven? Carlos is eternally motivated and optimistic, ⑧ How does he respond to new people or situations? Is he suspicious, relaxed, timid, enthusiastic? ANSWER. ⑨ Is he more likely to act or to react? ANSWER. ⑩ Which is his default: fight or flight? ANSWER. ⑪ Describe the character's sense of humor. Does he appreciate jokes? Puns? Gallows humor? Bathroom humor? Pranks? ANSWER. ⑫ Does the character have any diagnosable mental disorders? If so, how does he deal with them? ANSWER. ⑬ What moments in this character's life have defined him as a person? ANSWER. ⑭ What does he fear? ANSWER. ⑮ What are his hopes or aspirations? ANSWER. ⑯ What is something he doesn't want anyone to find out about him? ANSWER. >> top RELATIONSHIPS ① Describe this character's relationship with his parents. At his current canonpoint, he's considered a member of the Palmer-Carlsberg household, due to his relationship with Cecil Palmer. His relationship with Cecil's sister, Abby, is unknown, but he is on very good terms with her daughter, Janice. As for Steve Carlsberg...they get along fairly well, all things considered. ⑤ Who is the character's best friend? How did they meet? His best friend would have to be his long-term partner, Cecil. They met when Carlos was performing extensive scientific study on the other's hometown, even if their relationship didn't start off exceedingly well. ⑥ Does he have other close friends? He is close with Dana Cardinal, due to their shared time in the Desert Otherworld, along with several members of the masked army residing there, namely Doug and Alicia. His niece, Janice, is also worth mentioning, as are the five remaining members of his research team. A former very close friend would be Kevin. ⑦ Does he make friends easily, or does he have trouble getting along with people? He is good at making friends with people that share his values and interests--otherwise he just comes off as a bit over-eager and childish. Nobody can really hate him, though; he's just too nice. ⑧ Which does he consider more important: family or friends? As he never talks about his blood family, it'd have to be friends. ⑨ Is the character single, married, divorced, widowed? Has he been married more than once? Carlos is currently in a loving and committed relationship/possible marriage(?) with science his boyfriend. He has never brought up any past marriages, so it's safe to assume he's never been divorced. ⑩ Is he currently in a romantic relationship with someone other than a spouse? He has a boyfriend, and as far as we know, they're both unmarried. The exact nature and tenure of his friendship with Kevin was left ambiguous. ⑪ Who was his first crush? Who is his latest? Science, and science. ⑫ What does he look for in a romantic partner? ANSWER. ⑬ Does the character have children? Grandchildren? If so, how does he relate to them? If not, does he want any? ANSWER. ⑭ Does he have any rivals or enemies? ANSWER. ⑮ What is the character's sexual orientation? Where does he fall on the Kinsey Scale? ANSWER. ⑯How does he feel about sex?
